Donating Food and Groceries

Types and range of food

Foodbank warehouses stock a wide variety of fresh and staple foods including bread, dairy, fruit and vegetables, pasta, chilled and frozen foods, dry goods, beverages, spreads, snacks, baby food, personal care items and much more.

The top foods we are always in need of are:

  • Fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Fresh milk, dairy and bread
  • Breakfast cereal
  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Canned baked beans
  • Canned meats, fruits, vegetables and fish
  • UHT milk
  • Rice
  • Noodles
  • Sugar
  • Jam, peanut butter and spreads

There are dozens of trail-blazing companies whose commitment and generosity make regular supplies of staple foods possible.  For example …

Goodman Fielder Baking donates daily supplies of fresh bread to Foodbank in every state, averaging 2,200 loaves a day, every day of the year.  As a result thousands of people who would otherwise go hungry, now have toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and bread with their soup for dinner.

Rinoldi Pasta donates an average 7 tonnes of pasta every month and Masterfoods, Unilever and Simplot donate pasta sauce to complete the meal.

Sugar Australia started off with a donation of 100 tonnes of sugar and has followed up with regular donations which ensure tea, coffee and cereal are a little bit sweeter for hundreds of thousands of people every day.

Handling Fees

Foodbank has a small handling fee on some foods. The handling fee is necessary to pay for operating costs which aren’t covered by donations, such as electricity for our warehouses, petrol for our trucks and wages for our staff.  Our aim is to reduce handling fees to the lowest possible level and to exempt essential foods wherever possible.
