Foodbank's Vision
An Australia Without HungerDid you know that a staggering 2 million people rely on food relief at some point every year? A million of these are children. The evidence is largely hidden, but the facts confirm that the need is growing, particularly amongst the working poor and the elderly. In one of the richest economies in the world it is difficult to conceive of two million people not having enough to eat, and alarming to think that up to a million of them are children. Last year Foodbank distributed over 19 million kilograms of donated food, which met only part of the need. Foodbank’s target for 2013 is 50 million kilograms, which we hope will bring us closer to achieving our vision of an Australia without hunger. DID YOU KNOW? Hunger is one of the best kept secrets in Australia DID YOU KNOW? 15% of Australians living in poverty are families in which at least one parent works DID YOU KNOW? One million children go to school without breakfast or to bed without dinner |
