Who is Foodbank?
Foodbank is the largest hunger relief charity in Australia. Working together, Foodbank, our donors, supporters, partners, welfare agencies, volunteers and staff are tackling the hidden problem of hunger in Australia, one empty stomach at a time.
Foodbank is the pantry of the welfare sector and the food and grocery industry’s chosen distributor of donations. Foodbank is a national organisation with distribution centres in six states: NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia, the NT and with satellite warehouses in eight regional centres; Mt Gambier,Whyalla, Bendigo, Dandenong, Albany, Geraldton, Bunbury and Mandurah.
What does Foodbank do?
Foodbank acts as a conduit between the food and grocery industry, and the welfare sector. Food and grocery manufacturers, producers and growers deliver their donations to Foodbank warehouses, where the food is sorted and then collected and distributed by welfare agencies throughout Australia. The food is used to prepare mass meals or for distribution in food parcels, helping feed over 70,000 Australians a day.
What does Foodbank offer Welfare Agencies?
Over 2,200 welfare agencies rely on Foodbank to help them feed almost two million vulnerable Australians every year. They count on Foodbank to provide a reliable source of food & groceries and help stretch their budgets further.

What does Foodbank offer the Food and Grocery Industry?
Foodbank guarantees:
- A commitment to protection of donated brands and product integrity
- The same standard of food safety as applies to the food industry
- Best practice warehouse, handling, stock control, storage and distribution procedures
- Assurance that donations will not be sold, exchanged or bartered
- Single access to 2,200 member charities who will distribute the donations
- Monitoring of welfare agencies which distribute donations, to ensure brand protection for donors
Last year Foodbank distributed over 19 million kilograms of donated food and groceries, that's around 25 million meals a year
